Is dinner at Tusker House in Animal Kingdom worth it? Read our full review here!
Character dining is my absolute favorite way to dine at Disney World. It’s really an experience the whole family will love! On every trip we take, we always go to at least one character dining venue and we are never disappointed.
On our last trip in September of 2019, we brought the whole family along (all 11 of us) and made it our mission to try as many new (to us) character dining restaurants as we could! We had so much fun! I’ve been trying to work on writing reviews for all of the restaurants we went to, and I’ve already written one for our breakfast at The Crystal Palace in Magic Kingdom. Make sure you go check out that post – it was one of our most favorite restaurants of the whole trip!
Today, I’m so excited to share with you my full and honest review of Tusker House in Animal Kingdom!
Brief overview of Tusker House Restaurant
Tusker House restaurant is in Animal Kingdom park at Disney World. It’s African themed and resembles a marketplace in Harambe, so it’s a very rustic but fun atmosphere. It offers breakfast, lunch and dinner buffets full of African/American cuisine and really has something for everyone, no matter what your tastes. You can also meet Mickey, Goofy, Daisy, and Donald in their safari costumes.

Food variety and quality
The variety at this restaurant was seriously amazing. There were some very unique menu items here! I definitely had tons of options and plenty of new things to try, like curry chicken, peri peri whole salmon, black eyed pea salad, and spit roasted chicken (who knew something like spit roasted chicken would be so delicious?!). There were also a lot of familiar foods offered that pretty much any picky kid/person would eat (mac n cheese, mashed potatoes, corn dog nuggets, green beans, etc). We had a few picky eaters in our family so that was definitely important to us.
Everything was also stocked very well and it was all clean! Also, I highly recommend the adult beverage below, but I can’t for the life of me remember the name of it. Ha!

Service
Our waiter was fantastic. He loved to tell jokes and was really sociable with us (of course, our crowd was just as sociable!). He made sure we had everything we needed and was more than happy to take some pictures if he was there when the characters came around.
The Character Viewing Experience
The characters were so wonderful and made the whole experience so much fun! Our daughter was kind of skiddish with them at first, but Daisy especially took a little extra time with her to make her come out of her shell.
They came around pretty quickly and spent a good amount of time with us. We took tons of pictures so they were very patient with us in that regard as well.
The only complaint I would have about the character viewing experience is that it is in a very dim restaurant, so all of our pictures turned out grainy and blurry from lack of good lighting. Since it’s a character dining venue where people take tons of photos, I think they should really fix that. It definitely bummed me out that I don’t have good quality pictures to remember the experience by.

Overall Verdict
We loved Tusker House and would absolutely go back again! We highly recommend it to those who are big Mickey, Daisy, and Donald fans because you really get to spend a good bit of time with them during this experience. The food was wonderful and the service was great. We can’t wait to go back!
